San Carlos Beach closed as sea lion make landfall

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV) - Sea lions have taken over San Carlos Beach, leading to its temporary closure.

A colony of sea lions will be using the beach as their landing and resting spot, with the city of Monterey working with staff at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary to help ensure their safety.

As time goes on, locals and visitors will receive an update on when the beach is open. For now, they can watch the sea lions from afar at a distance of at least 150 feet away.
