Charter bus catches fire in Santa Cruz Mountains; 32 children, five adults safe

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) -- A charter bus traveling southbound on Highway 17 toward Santa Cruz was fully engulfed, with all occupants evacuated from the scene.

According to CHP San Jose, the bus caught on fire while driving on Highway 17, with the driver pulling off to the side of the road, with the driver and all passengers, 32 children and five adults, able to evacuate with no injuries.

Two Southbound lanes were shut down as crews began to work on the fire.

A second bus arrived to pick up all the passengers and continue their trek to Santa Cruz.
