MONTEREY BAY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- A new name is needed for a new otter arrival at the Monterey Bay Aquarium with a new poll to pick which one fits the most.

A new poll will launch for 24 hours on Wednesday, March 26, at Noon running until Thursday, March 27, with three names to choose from.

These names include Hazel, Opal, and Quinn to give to the otter when she joins the aquarium alongside Ivy, Ruby and Selka.

The yet-to-be-named otter was found stranded near San Luis Obispo at only three weeks old.

After being deemed unreleasable by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, she's behind the scenes rehabbing before joining the aquarium.

As for the names chosen, each represents different ideas associated with otters and with the newest addition.

Hazel is associated with wisdom which otters are known to possess. Opal is for the iridescent hue found in shells otters are known to crack open.

Quinn descends from the Old Irish word for "chief" which highlights the otter's confidence and sassy side.

The poll will be available on the Monterey Bay Aquarium's website and open to the public for voting on Wednesday, March 26 at Noon.
