Camp Roberts no longer considered potential site for housing evacuees who may have coronavirus
BRADLEY, Calif. (KION)
UPDATE 2/17/2020 11:20 a.m. Camp Roberts is no longer considered a potential site for housing evacuees who may be infected with COVID-19, according to San Luis Obispo health officials.
Health officials received the notice Sunday night.
Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein said “We remain prepared to work with federal and state partners should future decisions turn back to Camp Roberts as a resource.”
PREVIOUS STORY: The Monterey County Health Department announced, Sunday, that local officials were advised to prepare for the possible arrival of individuals with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) at Camp Roberts.
Officials said the evacuees were once aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship, where over 300 people were infected with the virus.
Officials said individuals who test positive for Coronavirus, but no longer need to be hospitalized, may be sent to Camp Roberts for isolation.
The Monterey County Health Department is working alongside the San Luis Obispo County Health Agency, as Camp Roberts is located in both counties.
“The Monterey County Health Department is working to ensure that we protect the health and well-being of Monterey County residents," said Dr. Edward Moreno with the Monterey County Health Department.
Officials stressed that there are currently no cases of Coronavirus in Monterey or San Luis Obispo counties.
