Santa Cruz Downtown Plan Expansion environmental impact review releases to public
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) -- An environmental review of Santa Cruz's Downtown Plan Expansion has been released for locals to review for themselves. The Environmental Impact Report found only three significant impacts with the plan.
The first impact involves the potential exposure of pollutant due to the exhaust emitted from construction vehicle. Another was indirect impacts to birds nesting alongside the San Lorenz River as construction goes underway.
The third impact would be creating change to significant tribal cultural resources. Plans to diminish these impacts are already in place in the review.
Other than those three impacts, no other significant impacts to Downtown Santa Cruz remain.
The Santa Cruz Downtown Plan Expansion includes plans to extend into south of Laurel Street with future developments including plans to create up to 1,800 housing units. This also include replacing 66 dwelling units.
Other plans in place include the construction of a new entertainment and sports arena for the Santa Cruz Warriors basketball team. The existing Santa Cruz Riverwalk will also be designed to accommodate to host public gatherings and events.
