Caltrans warns of busy holiday traffic ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday along the Central Coast

CENTRAL COAST, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Caltrans said Thursday that they expect this year's holiday travel traffic to increase along the Central Coast.

Caltrans is telling motorists to expect an increase in traffic during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend on top of cold, wet weather in the forecast.

Caltrans is reminding drivers to keep in mind these safety tips:

  • Reducing speed in rainy, foggy, icy and windy conditions, as well as watching for spot flooding that can happen along the roadways.
  • Slow down for highway workers, law enforcement or tow truck drivers working on the roadway.
  • Acknowledge electronic message boards and other informative road signs.
  • Ensuring vehicle brakes, windshield wiper blades and tires are in good condition.
  • To call 911 to for any incidents or hazardous roadway conditions.

Caltrans also says that they are suspending all non-emergency roadwork along the Central Coast from Wednesday, Nov. 27 at noon through Sunday, Dec. 1 at 11:59 p.m. They will be available, along with CHP officers, to respond to any emergency flooding or traffic incidents that affect the highway systems.

Caltrans is asking travels to visit QuickMap.dot.ca.gov for any updates with road closures.
