Fresno man killed in San Benito County crash, driver arrested for DUI, CHP says

SAN BENITO COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- A Fresno man is dead and three others injured after a crash along New Idria Road in the San Benito County area on Sunday night.

According to the CHP, the driver of a 2024 Can-Am Maverick UTV was traveling North on New Idria Road at an unknown rate of speed when it lost control at a turn.

The vehicle left the roadway surface and drove into a large drainage ditch. The CHP said the vehicle went airborne after and rotated before resting on its wheels.

The passenger killed in the crash was identified as 39-year-old David Muigia.

CHP-King City said the driver, identified as 27-year-old Gabriel Lopez was arrested for suspicion of DUI and later booked into the San Benito County Jail.

The other passengers are expected to be okay.
