MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- KION has been covering the elections locally. Today, three reporters scouted the three counties--Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito--to gauge what voters are most concerned about locally.

The Monterey County Office of Elections was buzzing with voters today, and KION's Dania Ramero was out there speaking to people.

Gina Martinez, registrar of voters in the county, told Dania that 40% of voters have already submitted their ballots in the county. So far, this is about 80,000 of voters out of the 214,000 registered voters.

According to Martinez, this turnout is normal based on past elections. She also added that despite the busy day, everything has gone smoothly so far.

A couple of voters spoke to Dania about why it's so important to go to the polls and vote, no matter how busy you--or the polls--are.

"No matter if today's voting day, at least [people] decided it's important to be here and that they took the time out," voter Vicki Nohrden, Monterey County resident, told Dania. "This is important for us because they're voting for that next generation. So they have an opportunity to have a voice so that elections will continue."

The first round of results will be posted after 8 p.m. this evening, according to the Monterey County Office of Elections, with the second round of results being posted at 10 p.m. Then, the Office of Elections says that results will be posted by the hour.

For voting in person, the elections office wants to remind people not to wear anything relating to the candidates in the races, known as electioneering, to avoid intimidation.
