Some Central Fire District addresses missing Measure R on ballot, Santa Cruz County elections office says
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The Santa Cruz County Elections Office says around 124 addresses were missing Central Fire District of Santa Cruz County Measure R from their ballots for the upcoming November election.
Officials say in response, a new ballot and a letter was sent to voters so they could vote for all contests they're entitled to.
The elections office says this happened because the homes were assigned only to the Division, but not to the Fire District.
Measure R is a $221 million bond measure that would "protect local medical emergency and fire protection services; and prepare wildfires, floods, and earthquakes by upgrading and repairing aging lifesaving equipment and stations."
The elections office provided a map of the impacted voters shown below:
The Elections Department says they have a process in place for voters impacted by this issue:
- The ballot envelope for these voters has been voided. When the envelope is returned, it is routed to a team to review.
- The team determines if the original or replacement ballot is in the envelope.
- The replacement ballot will be prepared for tally.
- If the envelope continues the initial ballot, the elections team will contact the voter to see about the status of the replacement ballot.
- If a voter only returns the original ballot and never the replacement ballot, and the team does not hear from the voter, the original ballot will be counted.
Voters who haven't returned their ballot are being asked to vote with the replacement that was mailed on October 12.
Any questions from voters can be answered by contacting the Santa Cruz County Elections Office.
