Salinas city officials confirm new police chief will be Carlos Acosta from San Jose

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) – Acosta will be taking over as Salinas Police Chief starting immediately, according to city officials.

KION has been told that there will be a press conference on December 2 to introduce Acosta.

Sources told KION weeks ago that current San Jose Police Captain Carlos Acosta was going through a background check to be the city’s newest top cop.

Acosta has been with the San Jose Police Department since 1998, according to his LinkedIn page.

KION has learned that is he slated to start early to mid-November, pending the background check.
