Watsonville man charged with hit-and-run after major crash caused power outage last week

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Watsonville police say that the major crash last Friday before 5 p.m. at the intersection of Hushbeck and McKenzie avenues caused significant power outages.

Now, police say that a Watsonville man, a 36-year-old Osvaldo Moreno, is faces hit-and-run charges as a result.

Officers say that Moreno was speeding when he tried to pass a car marking a turn. They also say that he fled the scene after hitting the power pole, but then turned himself in hours later.

The outage left many people without power for several hours and into the next day, according to police.
