Vegetation fire threatens homes near Barn Own Court; Cal Fire BEU

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Cal Fire BEU confirmed Monday that a vegetation fire broke out near Barn Owl Court behind a group of residential homes.

“We came out to go to the beach. I saw a bunch of smoke so I called 911. And as I was on the phone with them, all of a sudden a tree went up in flames and I panicked and started yelling at them ‘you need to come faster. It’s spreading, it’s moving. I don’t know where it’s coming from but there is flames'." said Jenna Hanson, resident nearby the fire. "They got here pretty quick. And the helicopters, the planes, they got it out. So we’re very, very, very thankful to our firefighters and CAL FIRE”

Cal Fire also said that those houses were threatened but that forward progress has stopped at 7.5 acres and the fire is currently at 75%.
