Two men dead after shooting along Carlton Road in Santa Cruz County

PAJARO VALLEY, Calif. (KION: The victims in the shooting along Carlton Road have been identified as two 21-year-old males, Jeremiah Rios Aguilera and Giovanni Alburto Lopez from Watsonville.

A memorial keeps growing for the two men killed last Friday near Watsonville. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office said the shooting may have been targeted.

"Our investigation up to this point has led us to believe, there is a suspect out there and did know the individuals and these individuals were targeted." said Ashley Keehn, Public Information Officer for the Santa Cruz County Sheriffs Office.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriffs office said they're working to find how many suspects were involved in the shooting. Family and friends at the memorial didn't want to speak on camera but gathered to pay tribute to the victims, and they said the loss has been hard for the families.

The sheriff's office said they're also investigating if the shooting was a gang related.

According to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's office, at around 12:43 a.m. on Friday morning, deputies were dispatched to a reported shooting on the 700 block of Carlton Road in the Pajaro Valley.

Deputies say that when they arrived on scene, they found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

Despite life-saving efforts, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Sheriff's office.

Deputies say that the deceased have been identified as two 21-year-old males from Santa Cruz County and that their identities will be released once families have been notified.

The incident is under investigation, according to the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office. Anyone with information is urged to contact dispatch at (831) 471-1121.
