Marina Police warns community about apparent mountain lion sighting in the city

MARINA, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Marina Police is warning people via social media about an apparent mountain lion sighting in the city.

Police are referring to the report as a "suspected" sighting at this time because while there are images circulating on social media, they have not been able to confirm the sighting.

The image provided by police has a timestamp of 9/17/2024 around 4:40:10 PDT and appears to be overnight.

Police indicated to KION they did not receive the initial report until mid-Tuesday afternoon when KION inquired about the possible sighting.

Police said it's not uncommon for wild animals to be seen within the neighborhood or streets.

"Until we are able to confirm the animal seen was a mountain lion, we would like to remind citizens to take precautions and take appropriate steps to ensure pets are safe."

KION has reached out to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
