Police investigating reports of shots fired near Watsonville High School

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Watsonville Police provided new details Saturday about an incident that took place near Watsonville High School Friday night.

The department said at around 10:30 P.M., its dispatch center began receiving reports of shots fired. The high school was briefly placed on lockdown because students, staff and parents were still on campus following the football game. Police reiterated that no shots were fired on campus.

With officers already in the area, police said they quickly narrowed the scene to an alley between the 200 block of Bockius and Elm Streets. That's where police said a large group of teenagers was seen running away just before the shots were heard. No victims were found at the scene, and according to police, there's no indication anyone was hurt.

Watsonville P.D. said it's working closely with school officials to review surveillance footage and gather potential leads for the investigation.

Police also noted a medical helicopter landed at E. A. Hall Middle School for an unrelated medical emergency just prior to the shooting investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Watsonville P.D. at 831-471-1151.
