Capitola Police arrest one person for reckless driving and evading police
CAPITOLA, CALIF. (KION-TV)- Capitola Police arrested one person for a number of charges that include evading police.
On August 9th at around 7:50 p.m., according to officials, an officer was on 41st Avenue and Gross Road and when noticed the male driver of a gray truck trying to challenge another car to a race. The driver noticed the officer and tried to do a burnout before speeding away.
The officer tried an enforcement stop, but the driver refused to pull over which led to a pursuit that lasted a little over a mile. During the pursuit, the suspect drove recklessly which endangered other drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians and properties.
The driver briefly collided with a sidewalk on Clares Street before continuing to evade police. The suspect soon got out of his truck a grabbed a bike from the bed of the truck and took off on the bike. The male ultimately surrendered on the 1100 block of 41st Avenue where he was taken into custody without anymore incident.
Further investigation into the incident found that the male, unknown name under the age of 21, was driving intoxicated. The bike and truck were impounded and the male was arrested on multiple charges, including felony evading, reckless driving and DUI.
