Attorney says parents of ex-student accused in Texas school shooting bear responsibility for attack

GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — An attorney representing victims’ families says the parents of a former Texas high school student accused of killing 10 people during a 2018 shooting on his campus bear responsibility for the attack. The attorney alleges they failed to help their son amid a mental health crisis and let him get easy access to their family’s guns. The claims were made during opening statements Wednesday in a civil trial in Galveston, Texas, over a lawsuit filed by family members of those killed and injured in the attack at Santa Fe High School, located near Houston. An attorney for Dimitrios Pagourtzis’ parents says the couple didn’t know their son needed help.
