Central Coast counties impacted by global CrowdStrike outages

CENTRAL COAST, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The massive CrowdStrike outage paralyzing airlines and other businesses across the world has impacted local county systems, according to officials.

The County of Monterey said its Information Technology (I.T.) Department has resolved challenges stemming from a software issue with CrowdStrike, which impacted several county core systems.

"As of now, all of the County of Monterey's key services are fully operational, including the critical emergency communications system, ensuring that it is serving the residents of the County of Monterey," said Chief Public Information Officer Nick Pasculli in a statement Friday morning.

Natividad Medical Center experienced minor disruptions in the early morning hours, but those issues have also been resolved, according to the county.

"Hospital operations continue without interruption, and patient care remains uncompromised. The hospital's Information Technology Department is vigilantly monitoring systems to prevent any further disruptions," said Pasculli.

County of Monterey offices will resume normal business hours to help people with their needs, according to the statement. I.T. staff have been dispatched to all county sites to repair workstations that may not be functioning properly; officials are asking for residents' patience if they encounter any delays in service.

Santa Cruz County told KION as of Friday morning, their systems were affected and were slowly coming back online. Public Information Officer Jason Hoppin said the county prioritized public safety, but people needing services should call ahead to verify availability.

"Some of our county users were affected, but our I.T. department has already addressed the issue and have taken down the server that may have been causing these glitches," said Rosemerry Dere, San Benito County Public Information Officer.

Dere said the the server crash affected county-wide Windows workstations but that CrowdStrike implemented a fix. Unfortunately the solution presented a flaw that affected some of their systems, according to Dere.

"The San Bentio County IT department is working diligently to restore those affected systems quickly," said Dere.
