SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) -- A partial road closure will go into effect on Torero Drive along Highway 68 on Friday, July 12, 2024.

This is a part of the “Toro Park Cut Through Traffic Pilot Project” and will be in effect through Oct. 1, 2024.

The project is designed to reroute traffic and avoid speeding through Serra Village and Toro Park during commuting hours.

The closure will block southbound traffic on Torero Drive at the Bravo Court intersection. This will prevent vehicles from entering the highway at Torero Drive.

Doug Bilse, Principal Transportation Engineer and Project Manager of the pilot project with the Transportation Agency for Monterey County, stated: “The pilot project is expected to be in place a week or two before school starts so that we can observe traffic and adjust accordingly. We will be monitoring traffic throughout the pilot project phase and gathering feedback from community members. At that time, we will review traffic data and have permanent solutions to review.”

There will be electronic changeable signs put up to inform motorists of the partial road closure. The transportation agencies are also working to improve traffic signal operations.
