Target cutting prices on an estimated 5,000 items to get back shoppers

WATSONVILLE, Calif. (KION-TV)- Target will be lowering their prices in their stores, announced on Monday that it will be lowering prices on around 5,000 items across the country. So far, they have already started cutting prices on 1,500 items.

The cut will be on essential items like milk, vegetables, bread, and even meat.  Also, on products like soap and diapers.

All of this because Target wants to help their consumers out as the rise of inflation continues to increase.

Target says that they are cutting prices in order for consumers to make the most of their tight budgets.

“My wife showed it to me on the cell phone this morning that they were going to do that and so I looked when I went in and it looked like it is going down a little bit,", David Mitchel who lives in Monterey County said.

Based on the Economic Research Institute's Santa Cruz cost of living calculator, Santa Cruz is 77% more expensive than the national average and 30% more expensive to live than the average city in California. 

“If they dropped it a couple cents, and they dropped it a couple cents every week it’ll really help later on," Bill Stanley who lives in Santa Cruz said. 

Products include milk, meat, bread, diapers and paper towels, among many other home necessities.

Target is joining other retailers looking to get a boost in business by trying to lure customers by cuting costs as inflation continues to be an issue.

“I like the fact that they’re lowering prices, but i’m not sure what they’re cutting to make those prices more reasonable," Mitchel said.

Target says that, so far, in some stores the price of a frozen pizza has dropped from $4.19 to $3.99, and we will see more coming this summer.

The lowered prices will also be available through store's website and its shopping app.
