Amazon purchasing land to build a distribution center in Salinas
SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV)- A distribution center could coming to the Salad Bowl Capital of the World.
An Amazon spokesperson confirmed to KION that they have restarted the process of building an Amazon distribution center within the city of Salinas.
"We have started initial development for an operations facility in Salinas. Launch plans are in the very early stages and additional construction, design, and permitting steps remain. We appreciate the support of our partners in Salinas and look forward to sharing more when we can.”
Sam Stephenson, spokesperson for Amazon said in a statement.
In 2022, Salinas City Councilman Steve McShane said an Amazon developer took the project from the table due to "growing costs of construction."

That proposed warehouse would have gone on an unused plot of land on Abbott Street and Harris Road.
KION has reached out to a City of Salinas spokesperson and interim city manager Jim Pia on where exactly this warehouse could go and we are waiting to hear back.
If built, this would be the second Amazon distribution facility on the Central Coast. The other distribution facility is located in Hollister.
