Multiple agencies prepare for potential storm damage in Santa Cruz County
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Multiple agencies are teaming up for a potent storm system heading toward the Central Coast.
PG&E says they've activated emergency operations on the Central Coast and expect Santa Cruz County to get hit the hardest by this upcoming storm.
The company says they're reaching out to crews from San Jose to help out the county.
Meanwhile, Santa Cruz County Roads is mobilizing its staff to get sandbags to local fire departments so people can turn to fire agencies regarding flooding.
Heavy rain and wind starting rolling in for Santa Cruz county and it is expected to get hit the hardest.
The business near Seabright are finding ways to protect their property.
"Betty Burger is pretty close to the beach it's about four miles," Connor Mayfield an assistant manager of Betty Burgers said. "We have these red tarps around our patio just to keep the outside seating dry."
The agencies around the central coast are getting resources secured and ready for the severe weather ahead.
“The other preventive measures that we are doing for the public is getting sandbags out to our local county fire departments," Alex Sandoval County Roads superintendent said.
If you are traveling on Highway 17 this weekend during the storm, CHP of Santa Cruz says it's important to stay alert while driving in the rain.
“Trees can come down across the roadway or power lines at any moment due to rain on Highway 17," Israel Murillo the CHP of Santa Cruz said. "It is important to be cautious and slow down."
