Santa Cruz police arrest suspect in LA Koreatown homicide

MURDER ARREST FOR SHANNON

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KION) The suspect in a Los Angeles domestic violence homicide was in the Santa Cruz County Jail after he turned himself in to Santa Cruz police Monday.

The suspect, 50-year-old Joseph Chung, is the ex-husband of the victim, a 48-year-old Korean woman. Her name is confidential.

The woman was found when police responded to a call about a possible dead body near the 400 block of South Berendo Street a week ago. When officers and fire crews got there, they said they found that her death was suspicious

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office later determined the case was a homicide.

Investigators said Chung has a history of domestic violence and was identified as the suspect in the case. Detectives believed he left the area.

Eventually, Chung turned himself in to Santa Cruz police and he was booked on an arrest warrant for murder. Los Angeles detectives transported him back to Los Angeles for booking and arraignment the next day.

Anyone with information is asked to call Los Angeles police detectives at 213-382-9470.
