Woman injured in car fire in Capitola, police say
CAPITOLA, Calif. (KION-TV)- A woman in her late 60's was air lifted to a local hospital after she was pulled from a vehicle fire on Tuesday afternoon in Capitola.
Capitola Police said that they responded that a Honda Sedan was on fire in the parking lot of 809 Bay Avenue, and at least one person was trapped inside around 5 p.m.
Officers said that dispatch let them know that an explosion was heard in the car.
Police said a retired nurse along with witnesses in the area were able help the woman out of the car.
Officers were able to get the woman to safety since the explosions inside the Honda continued.
The Central Fire District of Santa Cruz County were able to extinguish the fire which destroyed a Toyota truck that was parked right next to the sedan.
The woman was transported to a local trauma center where she is in serious but stable condition.
Officers say a dog was also rescued from the Toyota truck and was reunited with their owner.
Police said they do not believe the fire was suspicious or intentional. No other injures were reported as a result of the fire.
