A’s to meet with local officials to potentially extend lease at Oakland Coliseum
OAKLAND, Calif. (KION-TV)- So you are saying there is a chance?
On Thursday, The Oakland Athletics are expected to meet with the City of Oakland and Alameda County officials to extend the lease at Oakland Alameda-County Coliseum according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.
The Green and Gold's lease at the Coliseum is set to expire after the 2024 season. The A's did get approval from Major League Baseball to move to Las Vegas last November.
However, the team has yet to reveal revised stadium renderings which would be built on the site that the Tropicana Hotel and Casino currently sits at.
A new stadium in Las Vegas is not scheduled to open until 2028 and the team has been exploring playing in Sacramento or Salt Lake City in the interim.
However, Shea writes that the A's receive $67 million in their television deal with NBC Sports California which deal runs through 2034. If the A's played in Sacramento or Salt Lake City, that money would disappear.
