One person dead and two people detained after shots fired near Kansas City Chiefs Parade

KANSAS CITY, MO (KION-TV)- UPDATE ON 1:26 PM AT FEB. 14, 2024- CNN and our affiliate KMIZ is reporting that one person has died and at least 22 people are being treated for their injuries.

Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City told KMIZ that they are treating 12 patients from the rally and 11 of those patients are children.

Kansas City Police said they were working on clearing Union Station and they were releasing everyone from inside Union Station.

The Kansas City Police Department said that two people have been detained in connection to the shooting.

The Kansas City Police Department is responding to an emergency situation as shots were fired just minutes after the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Parade.

Officers told our CBS affiliate KCTV that shots were fired near Union Station and the public is being asked to leave the area.

Kansas City Police said that two people have been taken into custody. Officers said multiple people where shot but it is unknown how many people were shot.
