A weak trough of low pressure will linger just off the West Coast this weekend. The marine layer will remain deep enough for low clouds and cool, moist air to reach well inland. High pressure will then strengthen over the region next week with warmer, sunnier weather expected. Inland areas will be hot & dry while coastal areas will be warm. The hot & dry conditions will increase the fire danger and while we will have windy conditions for valleys in the afternoon, those winds will moisten into the evenings.
Sunday: A few low clouds on the coast, otherwise sunny & hazy. Warmer, with coastal highs in the mid-60s to mid-70s and 80s to around 100ºF inland. Breezy to windy for the valleys in the afternoon.
Overnight: Low clouds/fog for the coast and major inland valleys. Patchy drizzle possible. Smoky at times near fires. Lows in the 50s with a few inland valleys dipping into the upper 40s in the south.
Extended: Mostly sunny and warmer next week with coastal highs in the upper 60s to low 80s and widespread upper 80s to low 100s inland. Breezy to windy for inland valleys in the afternoons.

-Area drought status: Moderate drought for much of Santa Cruz & Santa Clara Counties, Abnormally dry on the east shore of the bay into San Benito County. No drought classification for much of Monterey County outside of the Gabilan Range.
