Rain Chances Sunday

A late spring storm system will arrive on Sunday. Rain is likely on and off throughout the day Sunday across Santa Cruz County and perhaps to a lesser extent for the coastal mountains of Monterey County. However, because of rain shadowing, many inland valleys won’t see much outside of a few stray showers. The cold core of the system will pass by Monday, likely generating additional showers. After a cool start next week, temperatures will slowly warm up.

Sunday: Periodic rain in the coastal mountains with occasional showers elsewhere. Gusty winds at times, especially on the coast and over the ridge tops. Cooler across Santa Cruz County with highs in the 60s, but many areas inland and in the south will reach the 70s and feel quite mild.

Overnight: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Lows mainly in the 50s.

Extended:  The cold core of the system passes by on Monday which will likely lead to showers and potentially thunderstorms. Temps will remain a bit chilly. High pressure then builds in with a drying, warming trend for the remainder of the week.
