Beach Hazards Extended

High pressure will be the dominant influence of our weather through the weekend, though one weak system will slip through Sunday morning. At most, very light rain is expected, though it will probably be more sprinkley than anything else. Warmer weather expected next week as high pressure strengthens.

*Beach Hazards*
… for the immediate coastline of Santa Cruz & Monterey Counties extended through 11AM Saturday morning.

A relatively large, long period WNW swell train will has begun to move into the coastal waters and will increase through this evening, leading to an increased risk of sneaker waves and rip currents along the Pacific coastline. As swells build, expect breaking wave heights of 15 to 20 feet.

Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Sneaker waves can knock unsuspecting beach goers over and into the sea.

Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.

If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave
for help.
