Light Rain Overnight, Heavier Late Week
The weather pattern will remain quite active through the end of the week with a weather system coming in every few days. The first will roll in overnight. Most of its energy is directed far to the north, so we’ll only catch the tail end of it in the form of extra clouds and light rain at most. The next system will be quite a bit stronger—perhaps the strongest since December. This cold front will arrive early on Thursday with gusty winds, possible thunderstorms, and brief, heavy rain. Another weak system will arrive this weekend before dryer weather prevails. Expect below normal high temperatures through the end of the week at least.
Overnight: Mostly cloudy with patchy drizzle
to light rain especially for coastal areas. Wettest hours likely from 2-5AM
with partial clearing on the coast by dawn. Lows in the 40s on the coast and
for northern inland areas, 30s for southern inland valleys.
Tuesday: The weak cold front will then move inland but break apart with
only a few sprinkles possible into the early afternoon. Expect decreasing clouds
for the rest of the day with occasionally breezy conditions on the exposed
coast. Continued cool with highs in the upper 40s to upper 50s.
Wednesday: Mostly clear and chilly with coastal lows in the 30s to
low 40s (and patchy frost) and upper 20s to 30s inland (with widespread frost).
Highs in the 50s. Increasing clouds and wind late with a few sprinkles possible
on the coast before midnight.
Extended: Thursday’s storm system will
likely be the strongest since December and will likely arrive early in the day.
You can expect brief, heavy rain and gusty winds with the possibility of
thunderstorms and snow in the higher elevations. We’ll clear out on Friday, but
highs will be chilly for both days. Expect some warming this weekend with low
60s returning, but another weak weather station may bring some light rain early
Sunday morning.
The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for January 21st – 27th
calls for the likelihood of ABOVE normal temperatures and BELOW
normal precipitation.
