More Rain Chances, But a Break on Friday

Skies will clear tonight in the wake of a weather system that brought rain to the Central Coast Thursday morning. The pattern will remain somewhat blocked up through the weekend with us stuck in moist northwest flow. So, after a break on Friday, additional, weaker weather systems are possible Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday. Rainfall is expected to remain light. High temperatures are likely to stay seasonable to slightly cool through the period. A stronger weather system is becoming more and more likely by the end of next week.

Overnight:
Mostly clear with patchy fog in the valley bottoms. Coastal lows in the upper 30s to low 40s with widespread 30s inland.

Friday: Mostly sunny with low cloud hugging the hills late. Highs mainly in the mid to upper 50s.

Saturday: A weak weather system will bring some very light rain early in the morning, then skies become partly cloudy with breezy conditions expected for the rest of the day. Highs in the 50s.

*High Surf Advisory*
… for the immediate coast of Monterey & Santa Cruz Counties from 9AM Saturday through 3PM Sunday.

A large swell train from the Gulf of Alaska will arrive on Saturday. Northwest swells will increase to 13 to 15 ft Saturday morning with a period of 16 to 18 seconds. Swells will start to decrease Sunday morning.

Large breaking waves of 20 to 24 ft will be possible!

Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Sneaker waves may sweep away unsuspecting people.

Remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks.

Extended: Sunday will be another cool and breezy day, then weak weather systems will come in Monday and Tuesday mornings with only light rain likely. A stronger system is likely later in the week.

The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for January 17th – 23rd calls for the likelihood of near normal temperatures and ABOVE normal precipitation.
