Another Cold Morning and Warm Afternoon

Cold nights and warm days will continue for the next couple of days under full sunshine. High pressure remains in control over the west coast, and continues to block storm systems from reaching our area.

…for the southern valleys of Monterey County in effect from 12AM Wednesday until 10AM Wednesday

*Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 expected.

*Cold conditions will be hazardous to sensitive populations such as unhoused individuals. Cold Conditions can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Take steps now to protect people, pets, pipes and plants from the freezing temperatures.

**FROST ADVISORY**
…for all of Monterey County not already in the Freeze Warning, all of San Benito & South Santa Clara Counties and Santa Cruz County with the exception of the “north coast” in effect from 12AM Wednesday until 10AM Wednesday

*Temperatures as low as 32 will result in frost formation.

*Cold conditions will be hazardous to sensitive populations such as unhoused individuals. Cold Conditions can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure.

Take steps now to protect tender people, pets, pipes and plants from
the cold.


Wednesday: Sunny and warmer for most areas. Light offshore winds early, switching back onshore and from the northwest late. Highs in the 60s to around 70ºF on the coast and upper 60s to mid 70s inland.

Thursday: Cold in the morning again, then sunny and warmer yet! Highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s. Light winds.

Extended: Temperatures will begin to cool on Friday as a system drops down from the north. Winds will pick up and there is an outside chance of a few showers on Saturday into Sunday—perhaps even some mountain snow showers. A cold air mass will settle in behind it into early next week. Future rain chances are looking slim.

-The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for January 29th –  February 4th calls for the likelihood of near normal temperatures and BELOW normal precipitation.

- ENSO Forecast: La Niña persists into spring, then transitions to neutral by summer.
- Area drought status: Abnormally dry for San Benito County, northeastern Monterey County and eastern Santa Clara County. Drought-free elsewhere- Monterey Bay Sea Surface Temperature as of January 22nd : 53.2ºF (avg of 5 buoys) [January Average: 54.7ºF]
