Tuesday warming, then Wednesday cooling

Tuesday will likely be the warmest day of the week, as high pressure strengthens and moves over the state. Inland areas will reach the upper 70s and 890s today. Early morning low clouds will limit the heating around Monterey, where highs will be in the mid 60s to low 70s. Coastal highs in Santa Cruz county should top out in the upper 70s.

On Wednesday, coastal areas will begin to cool. Cooler temperatures are expected in all areas Thursday and Friday.

Tuesday: Sunny and warmer after coastal low clouds. Daytime highs will push into the 70s on the coast with mostly 80s inland.

Tuesday night:  Clear early, but becoming mostly cloudy overnight. Lows mostly in the 50s.

Wednesday: Cooler, with few clouds near the coast, otherwise sunny. Highs in the 60s-70s on the coast and 70s-80s inland.

Extended:  Temperatures will continue to drop through the weekend. Seasonably cool with through the end of the week. Slight chance for rain on Sunday.

The outlook from the Climate Prediction Center for May 2nd-8th calls for the likelihood of ABOVE normal temperatures and BELOW normal precipitation.
