Death of Monterey County Jail inmate under investigation

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV)- The Monterey County Sheriff's Office said a 63-year-old male inmate was pronounced dead Monday night.

Deputies said they responded at 11:01 p.m. to a man unresponsive in his housing cell. Life-saving measures were attempted and responding paramedics declared him dead at 11:15 p.m.

The cause of the man's death is still under investigation, said deputies. The identity of the man will be released once the next of kin is notified.
