Family of victim in Boulder Creek house party shooting ask for help with funeral costs

BOULDER CREEK, Calif. (KION-TV)- UPDATE ON FEB. 2, 2022 AT 1:00 PM: Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim as 18-year-old Rowan Parham of Soquel.

Parham died on Saturday night after a shooting took place at a party on the 1000 block of Brimblecom Road in Boulder Creek. The juvenile suspect was arrested and booked into the Santa Cruz County Juvenile Hall.

"Rowan truly loved and cared for all of his friends & family, and was loved and cared for in return by so many," said Philip Wartena in a GoFundMe for the family. "Anyone that knew Rowan, knew that he was an extraordinarily loyal friend with a quick wit, an infectious laugh, and a smile that always lit up the room."

The San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District also spoke on the young man's death.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family who senselessly lost a child at a young age and also to all of our students and families impacted by this tragic event," said Supt. Christopher Schiermeyer.

Schiermeyer said even though the victim and the suspect did not attend SVUSD schools, many students knew both of them and are grieving. 

One dead in Boulder Creek shooting, suspect arrested

UPDATE ON JAN. 29, 2023 AT 3:04 PM: The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office have arrested a juvenile suspect in connection with the shooting that took place in Boulder Creek on Saturday night.

The Sheriff's Office said they have brought the suspect into custody early Sunday afternoon. Deputies did say that an 18 year old male victim died in the shooting.

The identification of the victim is pending notification due to family.

ORIGNAL STORY

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office announced that one person has died in a shooting on Saturday night.

Around 10:00 p.m., deputies responded to multiple reports of a shooting at a party on the 1000 block of Brimblecom Road. Deputies arrived on scene and found one victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

Deputies began life-saving measures but the victim succumbed to their injuries. The Sheriff's Office said the suspect is at large and this is still an ongoing investigation.
