Castroville arch replacement project begins June 13 with street closures expected

CASTROVILLE, Calif. (KION) - A project to replace the sign structure welcoming people to the artichoke center of the world gets started on Friday.

Caltrans says installation of the new community sign will take place at the intersection of Merritt and Preston Streets starting on June 13, with parking restrictions and traffic control in place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of June. Once completed, a ribbon-cutting will be held in July.

The work will continue during the same hours next Tuesday and Wednesday.

A full overnight closure of the intersection will start at 8 p.m. Monday, June 23, and last through 6 a.m. the following Tuesday.

Travelers will be detoured onto local streets.
