Marina approves amended ordinance for less barrier-to-entry for future daycare owners
MARINA, Calif. (KION-TV) - Marina council members approved amending an ordinance to help place fewer barriers on people who want to run a daycare in the city.
The city is hearing this after the planning commission approved its initial writing back on April 10.
The updated zoning ordinance would allow single-family homes and duplexes to run a daycare center with the proper state licenses.
It would also allow conditional permits to do the same at multi-family homes and some commercial spaces.
The city says the goal is to create fewer barriers to not just to allow for new daycares, but to give working families more affordable child care options.
"Child care is a critical need in our region to support our workforce and support our parents going back to or attending school….It's easy for me to get on board to support what the city does to promote safe, quality, and potentially affordable child care in our city," said one commenter during public comment.
Council will hold an additional final vote on June 17.
