City of Santa Cruz awarded $30 million for new treatment center
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The city of Santa Cruz is being awarded $30 million from the state to build the Coral Street Behavioral Health Treatment Center.
The city says the new residential facility will provide 24-hour non-medical, recovery-focused services for adults with substance use disorders.
50 beds will be available, which will help address a severe, current shortage.
The city's adding the center will serve some of the most vulnerable populations, including the unhoused, elderly, veterans, people with disabilities, and those involved with the justice system.
The funding is expected to become available next year.
