City of Santa Cruz set to adopt updated hazard, climate plan

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The City of Santa Cruz is set to adopt a five-year plan for tackling local emergencies and climate adaptation.
The 2025-2030 City of Santa Cruz Local Hazard Mitigation Plan and Climate Adaptation Plan updates the city's original 2018-2013 plans.
The plan prepares the city for natural disasters such as earthquakes and flooding by identifying hazards in the city and vulnerable areas and developing long-term strategies to prevent risks.
On the climate adaptation end, it plans to adjust to future conditions by building resilience to withstand climate changes when they arise following state and federal guidelines.
More than two dozen mitigation ideas and climate adaptation strategies are included in the plan.
These plans use updated studies, guides and reports to help navigate the next half of the decade.
Santa Cruz City Council will vote on adopting the new plan at an upcoming meeting on March 11.
