Monterey County Environmental Health to test water, debris at Vistra Energy fire site Friday
MOSS LANDING, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The County of Monterey's Environmental Health Bureau will be gathering samples to test from the Vistra energy battery facility on Friday. This will be the first time the Health Bureau has visited the site.
Partnering with the county's Department of Toxic Substances Control and California Environmental Protection Agency, the Bureau will be testing water, debris and dust. samples will be collected within the facility and in areas nearby.
Once the samples are collected, they will be tested for any chemicals such as hydrofluoric acid. The results will also be made available on the Ready Monterey County website.
The Health Bureau is also advising those living near the area that may have fire residue to be cautious due to safety concerns. Recommendations for those looking to cleanup residue includes wearing a disposable N-95 mask and goggles and using HEPA-filter vaccuum cleaners
