City of Santa Cruz warns of Wharf fundraising fraud
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The City of Santa Cruz is sharing concerns about reports of a Wharf fundraising fraud where suspects claim to raise funds for businesses.
The city said individuals are falsely claiming to represent businesses along the wharf and are soliciting donations on their behalf.
"These actions take advantage of the kindness and generosity of our community," the social media post reads.
The city said official fundraising efforts are being distributed through the city's social media pages and website.
They're also asking people to report fundraising scams.
