Protesters turned up at the clock tower in Santa Cruz Tuesday
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The organization that hosts a variety of protests across that nation, known as 50501, gathered again Tuesday in front of the clock tower in Santa Cruz.
"I'm out here with my community to show how much we love this country and how much we love and appreciate those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom," said protester and Santa Cruz resident Michelle Stupar. "We're out here to say that this is not acceptable and we are going to fight. We are going to fight this."

The original idea to hold 50 protests in 50 states on one day began as a movement on reddit but then spread quickly throughout social media. Although the group started with the intention to host protests across the United States on a single day, pop-up protests--like the one Tuesday--continue to spread.
"[This is] folks getting together and creating political movements," said protester and Santa Cruz resident Timothy Wilkins. "This is how we get congress, representatives and senators to actually sway the political opinions in the favor of democracy."

Protests are likely to continue as more political divisiveness spreads across the country.
