New Ride could be Coming to Santa Cruz’s Beach Boardwalk
The Santa Cruz Planning Commission is set to discuss permits for a new ride coming to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk at their meeting on Thursday.
The new ride would be the Vertigo 360, a swinging ride that goes back and forth before eventually putting riders nearly upside down at its peak. The ride's height is the reason behind one of the permits being needed, hitting 60 feet tall at its apex, while the area's current height limits are set at 40 ft tall.
This won't likely be a sticking point however, as the board's report on the project includes comparisons to other boardwalk rides like the Big Dipper, which has a height of 69 feet at its peak, and has been in service for years. The planning commission also discussing a coastal permit for the project due to the Boardwalk's location along the Santa Cruz Coast.
The ride will be replacing another ride on the east end of the Boardwalk, with the ride its replacing set to be moved elsewhere, but no specifics were given in the report on what ride this is.
