MONTEREY, Calif. (KION)-- A 40-year-old Monterey man is dead following a crash on his motorcycle.

CHP officials say around 6:15 on Tuesday evening, the man was driving his 2011 Ducati along northbound State Route 1, south of State Route 68 at a high rate of speed.

CHP officials add witnesses observed the Ducati traveling at speeds over 100 miles per hour prior to the crash.  The rider was unable to safely negotiate the curve in the roadway and lost control of the Ducati.

The rider was ejected and pronounced dead on scene.

The California Highway Patrol Monterey area is investigating the crash and they say alcohol and or drugs are not suspected at this time.

The Coroner’s Office will provide the identification of the rider once the next of kin has been notified.
