Big Sur Fire rescued a hiker Sunday; CHP Coastal Division Air Operations

BIG SUR, Calif. (KION-TV) -- The CHP Coastal Division Air Operations announced Sunday that Big Sur Fire performed an air rescue at the Barlow Flats Campground (Pine Ridge Trail) for a hiker who injured their knee and couldn't walk out.

According to the CHP, the hiker spent Saturday night in the campground before crews were able to get a helicopter rescue technician (HRT) on scene.

"H-70 hoisted the hiker out of the campground and delivered him to AMR ambulance at the Post Ranch landing zone," wrote CHP on Facebook.

They said that despite the rescue proving challenging with large trees surrounding the area, crews were able to maneuver beneath the tree canopy and perform the rescue.

The CHP said that they utilized almost all of its 164 feet of usable hoist cable to get the hiker out of the area.
