Downtown Hollister hosts trick-or-treating event for kids
HOLLISTER, Calif. (KION) Over 50 local businesses joined forces Sunday to give kids a fun Halloween experience.
In addition to allowing kids to trick-or-treat safety, the event also provided local businesses with the opportunity to get more foot traffic and boost sales.
It's Halloween on the central coast and many people showed up and showed out in downtown Hollister for their trick-or-treat with many kids excited for their sweet treats.
“I got milk chocolate… and I got balloons,” said some trick-or-treaters.
For many families who did not get to celebrate Halloween the old-fashioned, the event was a welcome change.
"It’s nice to see all the kids dressed up and see all the smiles on people’s faces and just to spend time with the family. It’s been wonderful,” said Clinton Brown.
For the city, it'll be their 3rd year celebrating Trick or Treat Street where businesses and organizations were giving out free candy for the children. There was even a costume competition for the best costumes.
"We couldn’t do it last year but it’s a big, big success. Our Rec department handles it. Families love it, kids love it, I love it,” said Ignacio Velazquez, Hollister mayor.
For businesses downtown, the event brings in much-needed business. something that was missing all last year due to the pandemic.
It's something safe for the community, all the kids get together, all the businesses, and then, of course, it's a good turnout for us," said Sara Lightfoot, bar manager for Johnny's Bar and Grill.
