SALINAS, Calif. (KION)

Salinas residents are making a stroll down the street a tribute to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Organizer, Julian Castro said he was inspired to create this movement with neighbors after seeing a small "Black Lives Matter" message written in chalk one day while he went for a run.

Castro says he has attended recent protests on the Central Coast and wanted to get everyone win his neighborhood involved in a way that was accessible and gave everyone creative liberty to write their messages.

“These are conversations that maybe in the hispanic, latino, Salinas community we’re not having but we want people to have and as well as we have a call to go vote. We want everyone to exercise their right to vote," says Castro.

He says he hopes this will get more families talking about the civil unrest taking place across the country.
