Israel fires missiles at Hezbollah drone flown from Lebanon

JERUSALEM (AP) — The Israeli military says it fired interceptor missiles and protectively scrambled warplanes after what it described as a drone launched from Lebanon crossed its tense northern border. The drone returned to Lebanon. Hezbollah issued a statement saying it had it sent the “Hassan” drone inside Israel on a 40-minute reconnaissance mission, after which the drone returned to Lebanon. Israel’s military said the incursion set off air raid sirens in the country’s north. Iron Dome interceptors were deployed and fighter jets patrolled the skies, it added. Israel and Hezbollah are bitter enemies and fought a monthlong war in 2006 that ended in a stalemate.
