Soledad City Council Discussing State Police Identification Bills

The Soledad city council is set to discuss taking a position on new pieces of California state senate legislation involving law enforcement identification on Wednesday evening.

The council will be discussing state bill 805, which would require law enforcement officials to display visible identification while performing official duties, and state bill 627 which would prohibit law enforcement from wearing masks or disguises unless in an undercover operation.

City staff noting that multiple state and local law enforcement organizations have opposed State bill 627 especially over concerns of officer safety. Once a position is adopted by the council on either piece of legislation, city staff will be directed to work with Townsend Public Affairs to engage California legislators.
