Father’s day celebration take on the Monterey Wharf

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION-TV) -- Father's Day celebrations are ongoing, and many families made it out to celebrate at the Monterey Wharf.

Signs around businesses and restaurants welcomed parents for a day of celebration.

Some families enjoyed the sixth annual Monterey Jade Festival. Live music and good weather made it the perfect event for dads. The numerous jewelry exhibits made it the go-to place for the female members of the family. Still, many enjoyed their day.

Russel Fisher, who visits from Utah, made a quick stop in Monterey with his family. It’s fabulous, I've got four squirrels, I mean children, that run around and cause me a great deal of joy.”

“It started out with making bacon and eggs for grandpa,” said Sarah Fraiser as she walked with her husband and son. She adds they started the day by “doing some gardening. And now we are exploring the Jade Festival.

Allen Fonder, who was also visiting the Wharf, said the best part was spending it with family. “I'm spending it with my daughter, just having a good time, eating for a little bit. going out and enjoying the boardwalk. It's not often that I come out here.”

Father's Day was formally established as the third Sunday in June back in 1972.
